I really love that you included cuisine in your list of art forms! It talks to my heart!! Could a “blue note” be considered conceptual? Could jazz, being both defined with parameters and rules but also free and ephemeral be conceptual? Thank you for this thought provoking article.

Thank you for the kind comment! Since it is music, a blue note does not strike me as conceptual in the sense of "purely conceptual art." It is not thought itself. That is not to say that there was no thought behind the playing of a blue note!

Likewise, I do not consider jazz as conceptual, since it is music, not thought. I would be very interested to see somebody find an exception—jazz made of pure thought!

I finally had a chance to re-read this. Very imaginative and thought provoking about conceptual art. However, I could not understand the last sentence of the essay where you say it is linked to understanding of existence.

In my Becoming Unknown essay, I explore the importance of experimentation. This 'purely conceptual art' idea is one such experimentation of mine. Who knows where it will lead? The exploration itself expands my understanding of existence.
